Holland House Description

Description

Holland House stands in three acres of beautiful gardens alongside the River Avon and is situated in the beautiful Vale of Evesham, an area with a long history of market gardening including some of the best quality apples, plums, pears and, of course, the famous ‘gras’ (asparagus).

The oldest part of the House dates from the early seventeenth century. Here you find a comfortable Reception area, Library Room, Drawing Room and a beamed Dining Room with an inglenook fire place. A wonderful feature of the centre is the bespoke chapel, a great place to sing in.

All exclusively ours for the weekend, in fact the staff are rarely around and it really feels like we own the place!

There is a reasonably priced honesty bar providing local beers, wines, ciders , fruit juices and presses.

With a lively mixture of learning songs (in 4-part harmony), delicious food, a trek to the river, saturday night cabaret. Why would you want to be anywhere else!

Every moment was joyful

…just to say what a wonderful time I had at Sharpham. I just love being there, and for me – every moment was joyful.  Good company, wonderful singing/ song arrangements, fantastic environment. Thanks for making it happen.

Food and Diets

Holland House has three fine chefs dedicated to providing the best meals for their guests. They understand that the best hospitality starts in the kitchen, and to that end they work hard to provide top quality meals made with care and attention. They also have an ethos of buying as much local product (some home-grown), free-range, organic, and MSC sourced fish whenever possible and practical.

If you have any food allergies or intolerances then do tell me so I can let the kitchen know.

They do offer pork, fish and chicken dishes during the weekend but also offer delicious alternatives to these meals if you don't eat any of these.

Let me know at the time of booking.

Event FAQ

When can I book flights?

Please don't book flights until I tell you to as that will be when the holiday is definitely going ahead.

What are the airport transfer times?
To use their bus service to and from Cortijo Romero, your flight should arrive no later than 15:30* and your return depart no earlier than 12 noon, which allows for transfer and check-in times.

There are 2 arrival pickup times, 12:30 and 3:30pm*

*This second time is flexible and can be as late as 5pm depending on how many of the group arrive on later flights.

If you arrive outside these times then you will either have to hire your own taxi or the centre can arrange a personal pickup for you , but the costs will be around £90.

Costs for their bus service are currently £28 each way.
Is the day out included in the price?

Yes, a coach is provided along with a guide to either Granada, the mountains or the sea. A pack lunch is provided as we will be away from the centre for most of the day. We return in time for the evening meal.

Granada is about 1.5 hours drive and there is an opportunity to visit the Alhambra. This will need to be booked several MONTHS in advance as it does get very busy.

Sea trip does what it says on the tin. A trip to the sea!

You pay for what you drink at the end of the holiday.

Arrivals are from 4pm on the Friday. First session starts at 6:45pm with a health and safety chat.

What time does it finish

The last session finishes around 3pm on the Sunday.

What if I'm going to be late?

Don't worry about being late, let me know and we can put some food aside for you and keep doors open so you can gain entry.

Do read the directions carefully if arriving in the dark

What is the nearest train station

Totnes is the nearest station and is a 10 minute Taxi ride to Sharpham. One of the retreat attendees may be able to pick you up so let me know if you need me to ask.

Can we bring Alcohol?

Yes, alcohol is permitted at Sharpham and we have struck up a deal where they won't charge us a corkage for bringing our own. They do make their own wine so in order to keep the corkage-free deal I suggest we buy some of their wine at some point over the weekend. It is very nice wine!

When is checkout?

Checkout of rooms is 10am on the Sunday and they request you remake your beds with fresh bedding (provided). We must vacate our rooms by 10:30 as there will be an incoming group after us.

Do I need to bring bedding?

They provide towels and all bedding so no need to bring these, but do bring house slippers.

What's the Cabaret?

We will be having a self-made cabaret on the Saturday night so if you have a party piece you would like to share then come prepared. If you need a guitar then don't forget to bring it along.

Do I have to do any chores?

We will be expected to share a few simple tasks such as washing up, setting and clearing tables etc. Be prepared to be assigned at least one task during your stay.

Washing up is quick as there is an industrial sanitiser machine that just needs loading/unloading.

Are there any other activities?

There is a private open-air unheated swimming pool so if you fancy a dip then bring a cossie along (Summer only!)

We will also take a stroll down to the river Dart so bring some appropriate footwear.
